A Plea to Parents

I like - no, strike that - I LOVE going to the movies.

So, if you are the parent of a small child, and are unable to make your child behave

STAY HOME!

Bringing a small child to a movie is selfish and punishes ME for your poor parenting skills.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do the movie-going public a favor, stay home with your kids until they are old enough to behave!

Amen. I understand kids get out of hand. They're just being kids. But parents these days seem to see parenting as something you just show up for, and children as equals to be negotiated with. There used to be a social pressure aspect to parenting, with parents embarrassed by the poor actions of their children in public. When people's kids act up in public, I think we should feel entitled--if not compelled on behalf of the future of society--to give the parents hell.

Jon,

Thanks for the reality check! IT'S NOT JUST ME! Phew!

Worse, most people seem to think parenting is a burden to be borne by everyone around them. As I said in my post, why should I have to suffer for someone else's poor (or non-existent) parenting skills?

You, like me, remember that as children we were TAUGHT by our parents how to behave in public.
